Board of Directors

Len Butticci
Len is an animal lover, having 3 dogs of his own.  In addition to being a regular donor, Len serves as a volunteer Board Member and the Chair for the HSDR. Len is the President and CEO of DataSource Technologies Inc., an insurance services company.  Len has a proven history of successfully building Management Teams that are driven to succeed.  Len’s strengths include: Executive Team Building, Organizational Management, Finance, Strategic Planning, and Organizational Focus.  The strategic focus of the Board will continue to include responsible fiscal policy, continuing improvements to all aspects of the HSDR including animal care, fundraising, and community presence.  Len welcomes contact from the community and can be reached by phone at (905) 409-5620 or by email: len.butticci@hsdr.org
Doug Edwards
Doug Edwards serves as Vice-Chairman of the HSDR Board of Directors and leads the organization’s technology strategy.  The HSDR is Doug’s primary philanthropic focus, due to his love for animals and concern for their welfare.
Doug is Founder and Executive Chairman of Zone·tv™. During the past 19 years, Edwards built an incredibly talented team and placed zone·tv at the forefront of an emerging cross-section of technology and media entertainment. Zone·tv’s products are available to more than 49 million households and 300 million consumer video devices across Canada and the US.   Under his leadership, the company’s customers now include Comcast, AT&T, Rogers, DISH, Bell Canada, TELUS, Shaw, HBO, The Weather Network and many others.
Edwards continues his executive education at MIT Sloan School of Business and has been awarded patents in both Canada and the US related to computing and television innovations. His past service in the Canadian Armed Forces, provides him with an incredible edge in leadership training and helped him develop raw perseverance.
Cindy Bennett
Cindy has been a volunteer with HSDR for almost 20 years and has dedicated many hours of her time to numerous fundraisers including the Golf Tournaments, Open House, Pause for our Paws, and Pet Pictures with Santa. In addition, Cindy is proud to have fostered over 200 animals, helping to get them healthy enough for adoption into their forever homes.  Cindy was also recipient of a Volunteer of the Year award by the Ontario SPCA in 2015 for her dedication and contributions to animal welfare.
Frank Auddino
Frank has been involved with special projects for theHSDR since 2006, and joined the board of Directors in December 2014. He spent the majority of his 35-year career as a strategic business development executive and a principal partner in a company owned with Rogers Media.
He is currently Angel Investor in Residence at the Spark Centre and with theNational Angel Capital Organization, specializing in assisting start-ups with funding, marketplace events and business development.
When Frank is not engaged in helping companies get funding and grow their business, he spends most of his time volunteering in the not for profit sector and social enterprises he cares most about– his community, youth, entrepreneur start-ups and four-legged friends- as a Rotarian,VP Start-up Durham, board member with the Humane Society, and the DurhamDistrict School Board IGNITE Learning Foundation.
Frank prides himself on being a well-rounded member of his community, both professionally and personally and resides in Ajax, Ontario, with his wife, Kim, and his best friends, Opal andBenny, two rescue cats.
Karen Keone
Since retiring as an elementary school teacher and assistive software trainer and consultant, Karen has devoted many hours to volunteering for animal welfare organizations, including the
HSDR previously and an animal rescue group. Karen and her husband have had dogs all of their married life. They presently have 1, but have also fostered. Karen’s family lives in Europe, which allows many opportunities to travel. She enjoys playing golf and loves spending time with her children, grandchildren,
pets and volunteering to benefit animals.
Dr. Larry Wilder
Dr. Larry Wilder is the owner of Lawrence Park Animal Hospital in Toronto.  His three doctor hospital has been providing veterinary care and contributing to the North Toronto community for nearly 30 years.   Larry is a 1989 graduate of Ontario Veterinary College where he developed a keen interest in small animal medicine and surgery.  A large part of Larry’s passion is in giving back to the community, in particular, providing assistance to animals in need.  He has been instrumental in caring for many animals requiring his expertise, including those from Durham Region and the Caribbean, including the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos and Antigua.  Working collaboratively with HSDR, his practice has helped many patients to find their forever homes.  Throughout his career,  Larry has also served in an advisory capacity to a pet health insurance company, the College of Veterinarians of Ontario and the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association.  Larry is pleased to serve on the Board of Directors of HSDR, where his vast knowledge of veterinary medicine and his managerial skills in operating a successful veterinary practice will help guide the Board in its strategic decision making
Bob Spiers
Bob has an affection for animals and has supported community services and lived in Durham region for the past 32 years with his wife, 3 boys and their little dog, Bailey. After building a successful business in the IT Services/Project Staffing industry, Bob sold his company 2 years ago and is now providing Mergers & Acquisitions and Executive Search services to growing Canadian companies. He is also active in the angel network community and provides investment and operational/advisory support to early stage businesses in Durham.
